Overview
This insightful piece by Aviva Romm examines the changing dynamics of friendship in today’s world. From digital overload to life transitions, she investigates how we form, maintain, and let go of evolving friendships and how we can navigate it all with more clarity and grace.
In a culture that often overemphasizes productivity and performance, Romm encourages us to rethink what meaningful connection truly looks like, how to establish boundaries, and when it’s appropriate to walk away from relationships that no longer serve us.
Key Takeaways
- Friendship is fluid – Some friendships are built to last a lifetime, others are meant for a season—and that’s okay.
- Check your energy – If a relationship feels emotionally draining, it’s worth asking why and whether it’s still healthy.
- Boundaries matter – Good friendships include space, honesty, and mutual respect—not just constant availability.
- Letting go isn’t failure – It’s okay to outgrow people or step away from dynamics that no longer fit your life.
- You’re not alone – Many women feel this shift happening—and naming it can help us feel less isolated.
Jaelin’s Notes
This one hit me hard in the best way.
I’ve been thinking a lot about friendship lately. I have a few friends from high school that I don’t talk to or see often, but when we reconnect, it feels like no time has passed. Those friendships are like warm, worn-in sweaters—comforting, reliable, and built on something deeper than daily contact.
But then there are the others. The people I was texting every day, seeing weekly, feeling emotionally entangled with—and then, out of nowhere, it’s over. Sometimes, there’s a reason; sometimes, there isn’t. It stings either way.
Friendship can be one of the most beautiful parts of life and also one of the most emotionally exhausting. This podcast article reminded me that friendship doesn’t have to follow old scripts. It can change, and we can change with it.
💬 What’s your experience with evolving friendships? Have you let go of a relationship that once meant everything? Or are you holding onto a connection that still feels like home? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
